10 Mbps is a light connection — fine for one person browsing, HD video and calls, but it will struggle once several devices are active.
At 1.25 MB/s a single 1080p stream fits comfortably and video calls are stable, but one 4K stream consumes most of the line. Large game downloads are an overnight job rather than a coffee break, and a second heavy user will be noticeable straight away.

If you have a download reading of 1.25 MB/s and want the line speed it corresponds to, multiply by eight: 1.25 × 8 = 10 Mbps. This is why a speed test and a download manager can look like they disagree when they do not.
